  • Courses will be organised only in German (DE), French (FR), English (EN) and Dutch (NL).
  • Proposed levels: 3 to 6 only.
  • One course per participant.
  • Two sessions will be organised :

    1st session:Dates :from 23 July to 10 August 2001 (3 weeks)
    Frequency :4 hours per day
Levels :all level 3 and 4 classes
    2nd session:Dates:from 16 August to 29 August 2001 (2 weeks)
    Frequency :6 hours per day

  • Timetable for courses :
    - Frequency - 4 hours per day: a half-day (morning or afternoon)
    - Frequency - 6 hours per day: 4 h in the morning + 2 h in the afternoon
  • Courses will be organised for each period and level only on condition that there are sufficient participants. Requests will be accepted within the limits of the number of places available.
  • Requests made by a directorate general or a service will take priority over requests from individuals.
  • Priority will also be given to applicants who have not yet participated in the standard twice-weekly courses or the semi-intensive or intensive courses organised during the current academic year.

PLACEMENT TESTS

For people whose level in the language requested is not known, placement tests will be organised from 7 May to 11 May and from 28 May to 1st June 2001. An invitation will be sent in due course.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Applicants must:

  • be either an official, a temporary, auxiliary or local agent, a seconded national expert (SNE) at the closing date for applications and during the course;
  • not be in receipt of an invalidity pension, on leave on special grounds, on sick leave or on maternity leave, or if they are working part-time not attend the course outside their working time.
  • never have participated in a specialised or specific course in the language requested (or not have been assessed as being of a higher level than level 6 in the placement test).

PROCEDURE FOR ENROLMENT

All applications for an intensive course must be on the basis of a specific request even if the applicant is already attending a standard twice-weekly course.
If the participant passes the examination at the end of the intensive course:

  • Those who are not enrolled in a standard twice-weekly course and wish to continue classes in that language must submit a new application for the next session of standard courses by 4 may 2001 (which is the deadline for the 1st semester of the 2001-2002 academic year).
  • Those who are regularly attending a standard twice-weekly course will be automatically enrolled when the courses restart, except for specialised courses where a new application is needed.

The original of the completed application has to be signed by the line manager and the training co-ordinator of each DG/Service. It then has to be sent only by internal mail to the Secretariat of the language courses, GUIM 1/60.
For organisational reasons, applications which are sent by fax (even as an advance copy) will not be considered.
Deadline for receipt of applications: 11 April 2001.

You will be informed of the outcome of your application by 18 June 2001 at the latest. In order to enable the secretariat to organise the courses effectively and efficiently, please do not contact us before that date.
