REGISTRATION FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2001/2002


The Headmasters of the three European Schools :

ask parents wishing to enrol their children for the next school year (commencing September 2001) to submit their request between Monday, 26th March and Friday 6th April 2001 by 16h00.

The only enrolments accepted after 6th April 2001 will be from those families who move to Brussels after the deadline.

The secretariats of all three schools are open from Monday to Friday from 9h00 to 12h00 and from 14h00 to 16h00, with the exception of Wednesday afternoons.

  1. APPORTIONMENT OF PUPILS BETWEEN THE THREE SCHOOLS

Application forms for enrolment can be obtained from the secretariats of the three schools.

N.B. THE EUROPEAN SCHOOL OF BRUSSELS III WILL ONLY BE ENROLLING PUPILS IN THE KINDERGARTEN, 1st YEAR PRIMARY AND THE WHOLE OF THE SECONDARY SCHOOL.

The schools will be unable to give a decision regarding requests for enrolment during June and July unless all the required documentation is submitted with the application form.

  1. NECESSARY DOCUMENTS :
    1. An enrolment application form, duly completed :

      This form may be obtained at the secretariat of either school. They are also at your disposal at the "Bureau d'Accueil et d'Information" of the European Commission and the Personnel and Social Services departments of the European Union Institutions.

      For pupils coming from other schools, parents must supply all the information requested and, in particular, to indicate clearly (in their mother-tongue) the classes attended in previous years and to specify the second language chosen as well as the child's level of ability in these languages.

    2. A certified copy of the birth certificate.
    3. A form relating to the employment status of the parents, duly completed and signed. This form is compulsory and must be attached to each enrolment form. It serves to determine the level of school fees to be paid for each child.
    4. A «certificat de scolarité» or School Report from the last school attended showing the grades obtained and also showing the class in which the pupil is entitled to be enrolled in the country from which he is arriving. (Article 46 of the General Rules of the European School).
    5. A recent photograph of the child, Identity Card size.

      The above documents are indispensable. The child's registration is final only when his/her file is complete (Article 46 of the General Rules of the European Schools). The documents will be returned upon departure from the school.

  2. CHILDREN ALREADY ENROLLED :

    Children who attended the school during the school year 2000/2001 will be automatically enrolled for the school year 2001/2002. (This applies also to pupils of 5th year primary who are transferring to Brussels III).

    Children in the final year of the kindergarten, and who meet the age requirement, pass automatically into the first year of the primary school.

  3. AGE OF ADMISSION

    1. Kindergarten (Very important)

      Children who will be 5 years of age by the beginning of the school year will be admitted on a priority basis.

      Those children who will be 4 years of age by the beginning of the school year may also be admitted, depending upon space being available.

    2. 1st year primary

      In order to be admitted into the first year of the primary school, a pupil must reach the age of 6 during the year in which he starts school. However, upon written request by the parents, the Headmaster may allow admissions one month earlier if the pupil is able to pass a maturity test administered by the school and provided that the school doctor's opinion is favourable (Article 50 of the General Rules of the European Schools).

    3. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd years primary

      BRUSSELS I : The school would like to inform parents that the kindergarten, 1st and 2nd years primary are free on Friday afternoons. Transport home that day is the responsibility of the parents. The pupils may eat at the canteen and attend the school garderie if the parents so wish.

      BRUSSELS III : Pupils in the kindergarten and 1st year primary are free on Friday afternoons. Transport home that day is the responsibility of the parents. The pupils may eat at the canteen and enrol in extra-curricular activities if the parents so wish.

    4. Upper Classes

      Admission into the upper classes is generally subject to the same requirements, the age increasing with the age requirements of each class.

  4. SCHOOL STRUCTURE

      The kindergarten and 1st year primary consist of six language sections : Danish, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. However, the rest of the primary school (year 2 5) consists of eight language sections : Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian and Spanish.

      The secondary school consists of six language sections : Danish, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

      Parents who require more information or who wish to visit the school are invited to make arrangements with the secretariat at least 48 hours beforehand.

    2. BRUSSELS II - Woluwé-Saint-Lambert, Avenue Oscar Jespers, 75, 1200 BRUXELLES

      The Brussels II School consists of eight language sections (Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Swedish) wilh all sections operating from kindergarten up to the final year of the secondary school.

    3. BRUSSELS III Ixelles, Boulevard du Triomphe, 135, 1050 BRUXELLES

      The Brussels III School consists of six language sections (Dutch, English, French, German, Greek and Spanish) operating from 1st to 7th year of secondary school.

      THE PRIMARY SECTION OF THE BRUSSELS III SCHOOL WILL ONLY CONSIST OF KINDERGARTEN AND 1st YEAR PRIMARY CLASSES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR 2001/2002.

  5. DEPARTURES

    Parents who intend to remove their child/ren at the end of the present school year are urgently requested to notify the school in writing.

  6. ADMISSION EXAMINATIONS

    Pupils who have to sit an admission examination for entry to Brussels I should come to the Uccle School on Wednesday, 5th September 2001 at 8h30.

    The Brussels II and Brussels III schools will notify parents in writing regarding admissions examinations.

  7. COMMENCEMENT OF THE SCHOOL YEAR 2001/2002

    The date of the commencement of the school year 2001/2002 for all three schools has been set for Thursday, 6th September 2001.

IMPORTANT NOTICE : During the month of August the three schools will be open as follows :

BRUSSELS I : will be open from Monday 27th to Friday 31st August 2001 from 9h00 to 12h00 and from 13h00 to 15h00.
BRUSSELS II : will be open from Thursday 16th to Friday 31st August 2001 from 9h00 to 14h00.
BRUSSELS III : will be open from Monday 20th to Friday 31st August 2001 from 9h00 to 14h00.
