Section V of the Sickness Insurance Rules specifies the conditions under which pharmaceutical products can be reimbursed. However, certain products are not reimbursable even if they are prescribed by a doctor. The Rules explicitly exclude certain products from reimbursement (e.g. cosmetics and haircare products, ...). In other cases the decision not to reimburse is based on the opinion of the Medical Council on the grounds that there is no scientific proof that they are effective and/or safe (e.g. Organotherapy, Serocytols, ...). Finally, in the light of the Medical Council's opinion regarding their necessity, certain products are not reimbursable. Thus, in line with the opinion expressed by the Sickness Insurance Management Committee, it has been decided that prescriptions of Sildenafil (Viagra) are not reimbursable. If you have any doubts about whether a given product will be reimbursed or not, you should contact the medical officer before purchasing it. A more detailed list can be found in the Administrative Notices "Updated information" published on 29 January 1996 or on Europaplus or Europateam (see: assurance maladie Þ documentation Þ informations administratives Þ updated information). | |
