VEHICLE REGISTRATION IN BELGIUM In accordance with the Belgian Royal Decree of 20 July 2001, published on 8 August 2001 in the "Moniteur belge" and entering into force on 1 October 2001, the following administrative operations require the advance payment by revenue stamp of the amounts specified below: Since 1.10.2001 From 1.1.2002 1. Reservation of a personalised number plate of five characters BEF 35 000 € 874 2. Reservation of a personalised number plate of six characters BEF 25 000 € 620 3. New application or replacement of vehicle BEF 2 500 € 62 4. Duplicate of a damaged plate BEF 1 000 € 25 5. Duplicate of the registration certificate BEF 1 000 € 25 6. Registration with an application for a duplicate number plate BEF 3 500 € 87 7. Reregistration of the same car with the same owner BEF 1 000 € 25 A vehicle may, by consent of the owner of the registration, be registered in the name of the owner's spouse or legal cohabitant, or one of the owner's children. In this case, the registration number will remain unchanged and the operation will be considered as a normal registration (new application) for taxation purposes. Staff should note that revenue stamps in Euro, although available from 15 December 2001, cannot be used until 1 January 2002. Revenue stamps in BEF should be used until this date.
