CONCLUSION 246/06
APPROVED BY THE HEADS OF ADMINISTRATION
AT THEIR 244th MEETING, ON 26 JANUARY 2006
Subject: Special leave for very serious illness
of a child (Article 6 of Annex V to the Staff Regulations)
Article 6 of Annex V to the Staff Regulations states: “In addition to
annual leave, an official may, on application, be granted special leave.
In particular, in the following cases special leave shall be granted as
shown:
(…)
- very serious illness of a child, as certified by a doctor, (…): up to
five days;
(…).”
For the purposes of applying this provision, the Heads of Administration
agree that the following are to be regarded as very serious:
- illnesses endangering the child’s life;
- illnesses with one of the following characteristics:
- need for severe therapeutic measures;
- presence or significant risk of serious handicap.
The Interinstitutional Medical Board will examine annually the
responses given by the institutions’ administrations to special leave
applications for very serious illness of a child.
Each year the Interinstitutional Medical Board will inform the Heads of
Administration of that examination’s outcome.
This Conclusion shall apply from 1 February 2006.
