COMMISSION DECISION
AMENDING THE GUIDELINES ON ASSISTANCE WITH THE COST OF HELP IN THE HOME
AND CARE FOR SICK CHILDREN
This Administrative Notice concerns officials working at the European
Commission, temporary and contract staff members of the European
Commission for the duration of their contracts
(1) , retired officials and those with
entitlements under a deceased official of a European institution.
The Commission offers its staff the possibility of reimbursement of the
cost of help in the home or care for sick children. Staff members are
entitled to this aid in certain situations such as death, illness,
convalescence after an accident, childbirth, serious illness of a
dependent child or particularly difficult circumstances affecting the
recipient or his or her spouse.
Active and retired officials and temporary and contract staff members of
the European Commission should submit their application direct to one of
the Commission administrative staff responsible (tel. 59769 or 66439). In
the case of retired officials and entitled persons of the other
institutions, the person concerned should contact the social welfare
department of the institution responsible. The Appointing Authority will take
a decision on the basis of the application, a detailed medical certificate
(or, where appropriate, the detailed opinion of a social worker) and
evidence of the household's financial circumstances.
Following the Commission's decision to replace the guidelines on
assistance with help in the home and care for sick children with the new
rules on assistance with the cost of help in the home and care for sick
children, the new rules entered into force on 29 October 2008.
The new rules are available on the following web pages:
