Staff as Ambassadors

General Guidelines and Practical Tips

This Administrative Note provides general guidance to both staff in general and those who, as part of their duties, are called on, or volunteer, to take on a specific role in representing the Commission, notably by speaking to the public or the media. They are also intended to assist those members of staff participating in "ambassador" or public outreach activities, as foreseen by Action 11 ("Staff as Ambassadors") of the 2005 Communication Action Plan(1) and by the Internal Communication and Staff Engagement Strategy(2) adopted by the Commission on 4 July 2007.

This information concerns the practical aspects of implementing the relevant actions to do with "Staff as Ambassadors", as one of the main elements of the Internal Communication and Staff Engagement Strategy, in line with the Commission's 2005 Communication Action Plan. These General Guidelines for "Staff as Ambassadors" (Annex 1 ) clarify and update existing rules and practice, with due regard to the Staff Regulations and the Code of Good Administrative Behaviour. This guidance also takes the form of Practical Tips for "Staff as Ambassadors" (Annex 2 ).
