Joint Sickness Insurance Scheme
Screening tests under the JSIS’ preventive medicine
programmes
Possibility for beneficiaries of
primary or supplementary cover under the JSIS to obtain authorisation for
direct billing for screening tests
(1)
This Administrative Notice relates to the possibility to obtain
direct payment (authorisation for direct billing) for screening tests.
Preventive medicine (through screening programmes) is handled by the
sickness insurance fund and intended for beneficiaries of the Joint
Sickness Insurance Scheme (JSIS). The composition and regularity of these
programmes are determined by the Central Office, acting on a proposal from
the Medical Council and after consulting the Sickness Insurance Management
Committee. This information is available at the following address:
http://www.cc.cec/pers_admin/sick_insur/prevention/index_en.html
Beneficiaries who wish to take screening tests and are covered by the
Brussels, Luxembourg or Council office should phone +32 22953866, while
those covered by the Ispra Settlements Office should phone +39 0332789382.
After checking entitlement and the regularity of the tests, an
authorisation will be issued for the tests to be conducted at an
approved centre. A list of approved centres is available at the following
address:
http://www.cc.cec/pers_admin/sick_insur/prevention/detection_en.html
However, if there is no approved centre in the beneficiary’s region of
residence or employment, the Settlements Office may, pending the
conclusion of framework contracts through a new invitation to tender
procedure, authorise him/her to take the relevant screening tests at
medical centres or other hospitals in his/her place of employment or
residence.
In that case, an authorisation for direct billing may be issued in
order to obtain direct payment provided that
- the beneficiary is eligible, depending on the regularity of the
tests
- he/she chooses a single medical centre or hospital that conducts all
the tests to be reimbursed under the preventive medicine programme.
