Subject: Special leave for breast-feeding mothers


THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL FOR PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATION,

Having regard to the second paragraph of Article 57 of the Staff Regulations and in particular Article 6 of Annex V thereto,

Whereas there is a need to grant special leave to women wishing to breast-feed their babies who have exhausted the maternity leave provided for in Article 58 of the Staff Regulations,

Whereas this matter should be formalised so as to ensure uniformity of treatment within the Commission,

DECIDES AS FOLLOWS:

A mother who is breast-feeding may on request, on the basis of a medical certificate attesting the fact, be granted special leave under Article 6 of Annex V to the Staff Regulations of a maximum of four weeks running from the end of her maternity leave.

This internal Directive shall enter into force on 1 November 1999.
